WHEN: Dec 4-27, 2024
WHERE: A/NT Gallery, 305 Harrison St, Seattle
This exhibition celebrates the enduring legacy of Ukrainian icon painting dating back to the 10th century.
The radiant colors and other-worldly compositions of the icons provided the faithful with a compelling theological narrative and a contemplative space in which to encounter the divine.
In spite of generations of religious and cultural repression, this sacred imagery maintained a powerful presence in Ukraine’s collective memory.
This exhibition displays the work of artists who embrace the prescribed methods and motifs of this ancient art form, as well as those who push its boundaries. Using innovative techniques and non-traditional media, they explore the relevance of sacred art in today’s world.
A portion of the proceeds from this exhibition will be donated to the Lviv National Academy of Arts and its students who have been displaced by Russia’s war on Ukraine, as well as the amputee support program of the Ukrainian Association of Washington State.
