HOLODOMOR COMMEMORATION & MR. JONES MOVIE SCREENING
Join the Ukrainian Association of Washington State on November 19, 2023, for a remembrance ceremony and movie screening event at the University of Washington with featured speakers, Andrea Chalupa, a Ukrainian American writer, podcaster, screenwriter and producer of the award-winning journalistic thriller Mr. Jones, and Tetiana Soproniuk, a doctoral student at the Department of History of Ukraine of Nizhyn Mykola Gogol State University in Ukraine. We will also be joined by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Bishop Benedict who will lead us in prayer for the victims of this man-made famine. We ask everyone to join us to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, Stalin’s famine-genocide that resulted in the murder by starvation of millions of Ukrainians in 1932–1933.
About the movie:
The screening of “Mr. Jones,” a powerful drama highlighting the life of the intrepid journalist Gareth Jones and his courageous efforts to uncover the truth about the Holodomor, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving historical memory and advocating for truth and justice.
The Holodomor, also known as the Great Ukrainian Famine, was a man-made famine (genocide) in the Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed 3 – 7.5 million Ukrainians. Each November, Ukrainians solemnly honor and pay tribute to the millions that suffered and died during the Holodomor: “death by hunger.” On this 90th anniversary, November 19th, we unite to honor the past and impart knowledge for the future.
Вшанування Голодомору та показ фільму “Містер Джонс” (Ціна Правди)
Приєднуйтеся до Української асоціації штату Вашингтон 19 листопада 2023 року на церемонії до Дня Памʼяті Голодомору та показі фільму в Університеті Вашингтону. Спікерами будуть Андреа Чалупа, українсько-американська письменниця, підкастерка, сценаристка та продюсерка нагородженого журналістського трилера “Містер Джонс”, та Тетяна Сопронюк, аспірантка кафедри історії України Ніжинського державного університету імені Миколи Гоголя в Україні. До нас також приєднається єпископ УГКЦ Венедикт, який поведе нас у молитві за жертви цього штучного голоду. Ми закликаємо всіх долучитися до нас для вшанування 90-річчя Голодомору, геноциду сталінського голодомору, який призвів до голодної смерті мільйонів українців у 1932-1933 роках.

Показ фільму “Містер Джонс”, драми, що показує життя відважного журналіста Гарета Джонса і його сміливі зусилля розкрити правду про Голодомор, служить важливим нагадуванням про значення збереження історичної пам’яті та вступу в боротьбу за правду та справедливість.
Голодомор, також відомий як Великий український голод, був штучним голодомором (геноцидом) в радянській Україні від 1932 до 1933 року, який призвів до смерті від 3 до 7,5 мільйонів українців. Кожного листопада українці урочисто вшановують мільйони тих, хто страждав і помер під час Голодомору. У цю 90-ту річницю, 19 листопада, ми єднаємось, щоб вшанувати минуле та передати знання для майбутнього.
