Vechornytsi were traditional gatherings of young people with music, songs, jokes, games and rituals and were very popular in the old days. At these parties people cooked delicious dinners, created folk art objects, met new friends and socialized.
This unique exhibition will run from November 30 to December 27 and will provide an opportunity to see and buy the work of local and Ukrainian artists. The artwork and handicrafts will feature different forms of media both big and small and includes paintings, digital prints, as well as unique pottery, handmade jewelry, tapestry art, stained glass, handmade dolls, Christmas ornaments, and many more.
Ukrainians in Seattle will join Ukraine and the international community in honoring the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33, the genocide that was one of the many attempts to destroy the Ukrainian nation by the Russian invader.

On November 15, as the G20 summit started in Indonesia, Russia targeted critical infrastructure and civilian residential buildings in 18 Ukrainian regions, launching more than 100 missiles. We can’t ignore these terrorist acts. So we are mobilizing the Ukrainian community, Polish community, Baltic community, and everyone supporting freedom and democracy to protest against Russia.
The Ukrainian community and Green Seattle Partnership are planning a large tree planting event. About 50 volunteers will come together to plant about 400 trees and shrubs with a goal to express gratitude to Seattle, Washington State and USA for welcoming our Ukrainian refugees and to commemorate those killed in Ukraine by Russian aggression.
UAWS is going to hold its annual general meeting where we’ll talk about what was achieved last year, our ongoing support and projects to help Ukraine, and what our future plans for 2023 are for our community. Everyone is welcome to attend!
The Ukrainian Association of Washington State is a non-profit, tax exempt organization under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) was incorporated in 1971, which works to preserve Ukrainian heritage and is the link that unites our Ukrainian-American people. The Association is active in organizing the various cultural and artistic activities as well as patriotic gatherings. We traditionally celebrate Ukrainian Day of Independence and honor our national bard, Taras Shevchenko. The Association also supports the Fund to Endow a Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Washington, Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Barvinok and Serpanok chorus. Our focus will always be to bring out what is the best in our Ukrainian community.
